Reassurance Scan 6-8 weeks
Service Description
The 6-8 week reassurance scan is designed to check your baby’s well being and to confirm viability (whether a heartbeat is visualised) in order to give you reassurance from 6 weeks gestation. Measurements will be taken at the time of the scan to give you an approximate idea of gestation. We will also be able to check if it is a single or multiple pregnancy and in the correct location. It may, at times, be necessary to offer an internal scan. The sonographer will explain the internal scan (what it involves and what to expect) and answer any questions you may have. If our sonographer is concerned at all with any unexpected findings during your scan, appropriate aftercare and advice will be offered and a report given. If you are having pelvic pain or bleeding, we would recommend that you speak to your GP or local Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit in the first instance. We also advise you to attend your local hospital for your routine antenatal appointments/ scans. Please note, we are not able to refer directly to the early pregnancy unity at the weekend however we will provide you with a report to take away to give to your local healthcare professional. It is not possible to do any anomaly checks at this early stage as the baby has not finished developing. Scan Preparation: Please attend with a full bladder. We suggest drinking approximately one litre of clear fluids an hour before your scan. We are only able to offer scans to people aged 18 and over Included in the scan: ● 20 minute scan appointments ● Digital images and mini video clips direct to your phone ● Black and white prints of your images
